JLL Property Triathlon - Quorum Park

Tri Team Newcastle give the rest of the north a run for their money

Five triathletes from Newcastle’s property scene took part in the JLL Property Triathlon North on Friday 24th July in the iconic settings of Media City Salford Quays Manchester, raising £22,000 for Starlight and Christies charities.

Comprising a 750m swim, 20km cycle and a 5km run, the sprint distance triathlon was open to anyone in, or connected to, the property industry and is a great way for people of all ages and abilities to come together and compete side by side. The event attracts all levels of competitor, from complete novices to more seasoned triathletes.

Tri Team Newcastle comprised of Paddy Matheson, Jamie Baldridge and Laura McVittie from Knight Frank, Chris Pearson from Gavin Black and Fergus Trim from Broadoak Asset Management. All are involved with working at Quorum Business Park in Newcastle who sponsored the team kit and training sessions.

The team have been training together since May, taking part in open water swim training, evening cycle rides and lunch time running sessions. Some of the team also took part in the VO2 Northumberland and QE2 Triathlon’s in the run up to the event.

The hard work paid off and Tri Team Newcastle gave the rest of the northern property workers a run for their money. Some top achievements included Laura coming in 11th out of 33 in the women’s race and Patrick coming in 62nd out of 263 in the men’s race. We also proved that we have strong swimmers in the north east as Jamie was first out of the water in the 30-34 men’s race and Chris was 3rd out of the water on the 50+ men’s race.

Laura McVittie said “I am a keen cyclist so I thought I would give it a go. It was a struggle to train at times working full-time with a 16 month old son, however I am pleased I took up the challenge as I have improved my general fitness and it was a real sense of achievement when I crossed the finish line in a respectable time”

Patrick Matheson said “ I have competed in many triathlons and even did an iron man challenge a few years ago. The JLL Triathlon at Media City in front of the BBC studios was one of the best I’ve competed in, the urban setting was exciting and there was a real buzz around the event”.

The team were delighted with the results and can’t wait to take part again next year.
