More than just rainbows: Supporting LGBT staff at Quorum - Quorum Park

Quorum Business Park Celebrates its first ever pride event and launches a new onsite LGBT committee. The new Q Pride LGBT committee aims to provide a network of opportunities, events and workshops for LGBT staff working onsite as well as working in partnership with onsite tenants to provide support to their staff.

To launch the committee, the team at Quorum hosted an onsite Pride event around the Event Plaza. With a selection of street food vendors, entertainment from dance troop the Muses – who performed a routine of songs to a medley of ‘Camp Classics’ the event culminated in an onsite Pride Parade with the Tesco Pride Truck, kindly loaned to us by onsite tenants Tesco Bank who have been very active in promoting the Q Pride Committee with staff.

The truck did a lap of the park blasting music with a trail of brightly dressed staff waving flags behind, much to the entertainment of staff working in buildings – it was quite the talking point of the day!

Onsite Events Manager, Laura McGrath was delighted with the turn out ‘If I’m honest, I was a bit nervous of what turn out might be like at the event, would tenants get behind us, would staff turn out in support…? I’m pleased to say all my reservations were well and truly misplaced as the response across site was phenomenal.

Volunteers from over ten onsite tenants took part in the parade and more volunteers took time from their day and manned our Pride stall – taking names of people interested in signing up to the committee, taking suggestions for future events and handing out flyers.

In the interests of providing food options for all, onsite tenants Greggs donated vegan Sausage rolls and The Hub team offered out free Rum Punch and tropical fruit mocktails to staff from our new Events Cabin.

As much fun as the event was, it was important to the team that there was substance behind the event and it wasn’t a case of jumping on a bandwagon. Laura explains ‘it felt important to us that this was more than an excuse to deck the place out in rainbow flags, there are a lot of LGBT staff working within Quorum, it is important to us that anyone working here feels supported and has an outlet to express their views. With the launch of our new committee we can ensure everyone working here has a voice. We’re looking forward to launching our new Community Hub Networks later this summer.
