Lunch Club with Enotria and co – wine tasting – Tuesday 5 August from 11am
Join us for our August lunch club where James Scrimgeour of Enotria & Coe wines will be hosting an organic wine tasting. Learn all about organic wines, why they are growing so much in popularity and taste some specially selected examples.
COST: £32.50pp including arrival fizz, organic wine tasting, three course lunch & coffee.
Rum good time – Rum tasting – Thursday 4 August, 6-8pm.
Rum is the most diverse and versatile of all spirits. White, Golden, Dark, Spiced, and Flavoured can all be great on their own, poured over ice, blended with your favourite mixer, or shaken up in a cocktails; rum is the perfect drink for any occasion.
With varied production and distillation methods, diverse ageing and cask approaches, climate and of course blending, every rum is different and there is definitely something for everyone. Come and enjoy something new this year.
COST: £32.50 including a palate-cleansing fizz on arrival and 4 totally different rums – some neat and some with a choice of mixer plus nibbles.
Come wine with me – an intro to wine tasting – Friday 5 August, 6-8pm
Join us for an evening of wine discovery with a selection of top notch wines hand-picked by our own sommelier. Learn how to decipher confusing labels as well as the wine’s appearance, secrets of the nose (aroma) and its all-important taste.
The evening will include a glass of fizz on arrival, six fantastic samples of wine including a mixture of white and red wine plus some nibbles to soak-up the alcohol. We’ll briefly discuss each wine, how it’s made and how best to taste it. Come on, you have ~10,000 taste buds – learn to use them!
COST: £32.50 including fizz on arrival and 6 samples of wine and some nibbles.
Whisky tasting hosted by spirit of Yorkshire distillery
Join us in Blackfriars Tasting Room for a special “Water of life” whisky tasting hosted by Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery.
Spirit of Yorkshire is their county’s first ever single malt whisky distillery, based in Hunmanby, near Filey on the North Yorkshire Coast.
They’ll share with us their field to bottle process, showcasing 5 of Filey Bay’s unique expressions as well as a cheeky schooner of their sister company, Wold Top Brewery’s, ‘Barrel Wave’ IPA – using Spirit of Yorkshire’s whisky casks within it’s production.
COST: £32.50 including a schooner of ale on arrival, 5 different Filey Bay whiskies and a schooner of Wold Top Brewery’s ‘Barrel Wave’ IPA, plus nibbles.
Evening cookery – Korean – Wednesday 17 August, 6-9pm
Whilst commonly used ingredients include sesame oil, fermented bean paste, soy sauce, salt, garlic, ginger, pepper flakes and fermented red chilli paste, it’s the salted and fermented vegetable preparation of kimchee such as napa cabbage which seems so ubiquitous to Korean meal times. Whether beef, chicken, pork or seafood, serve a bit of fermented goodness to raise it to a whole new level.
COST: £65 per person per evening which includes all your food produce, and meal to take home and simple refreshments during the class.
Yipee IPA – Discovering Indian IPA – Thursday 25 August, 6-8pm
Indian Pale Ale has become the most popular, if not most misunderstood styles of beer in recent years, but what is an IPA? Join us at Blackfriars’ Tasting room for a guided tasting of some of our favourite IPAs from local breweries as well as some of the aromatic and citric hopped IPAs from our American cousins across the Pond. One of our friendly Cicerone-trained crew members will take you through the ultimate beer tasting experience while you imbibe in some very hoppy and flavoursome brews.
COST: £32.50 including talk, 6 samples of beer and nibbles.
Witches & Wizards Supper – Friday 26 August, from 7pm
If you love Harry Potter, this event is for you! Join us at Blackfriars to celebrate all things witches, warlocks and wizards in the surroundings of our 13th century medieval friary. Our chefs are ready with cauldrons to stir up a mystical menu including roast Hog’warts n all’! Fancy dress is actively encouraged to get you in the mood for a magical evening. Hang up your broomsticks to be handed a welcome cocktail followed by a 3-course feast in our Banquet Hall and enjoy the entertainment.
COST: £75 adults / £35 children including a drink on arrival, three sumptuous courses and coffee.
Thai Cookery – Saturday 27 August, 9.30-4pm.
The CNN Travel World’s ’50 Best Foods’ had no less than four dishes in the Top 10 alone. Lightly prepared with strong aromatics and cutting-edge spices, these dishes are sometimes described as the ‘complicated juggling of disparate components to create a harmonious finish’. So, if you want to know your Toms from your Tams, Yams from your Pads, here’s your chance. Don’t get Thai’d up in knots, come and enjoy a day of fun before preparing your own communal lunch to enjoy with your new friends.
COST: £145 per person which includes refreshments throughout the day, a communal lunch with wine, regional beverage and coffee in the Cookery School.
