Brian Burnie is at it again!

Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care founder, Brian Burnie

Brian Burnie is at it again! The founder of Daft as a Brush is giving away more hampers and we were delighted to be able to support his latest generous venture!

Like many people, Brian Burnie was left angry and upset after watching the recent ITV drama “Mr Bates v The Post Office”. The series covers one of the greatest miscarriages of justice in British legal history, where hundreds of innocent sub-postmasters and postmistresses were wrongly accused of theft, fraud and false accounting due to a defective IT system.

With the help of Ringtons, Brian recently created some very special hampers for over 2,000 of the charity’s volunteers, hospital staff, cancer patients etc, as a thank you gift over Christmas. He has now extended the gesture to all sub postmasters throughout Great Britain as a small token of admiration to innocent people who have suffered.

Daft as a Brush is a Newcastle-based charity which transports cancer patients to and from hospital for their chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatment, free of charge. The cost of the hampers has been covered by Brian privately, and with the help of the team at Quorum Park, Brian has been able to store, pack and distribute the hampers this summer.

“After I watched the ITV series “Mr Bates v The Post Office” I was deeply shocked and quite upset at the level of injustice the sub postmasters experienced. Nothing can ever give these people back the years they’ve lost feeling so isolated and distrusted. I wanted to reach out with a simple message of support and to offer a cuppa. It’s a simple gesture from a ‘daft’ Geordie!

“I am thrilled the convictions of hundreds of postmasters were quashed. This hopefully clears their names, delivers justice, and ensures swifter access to the financial redress they all deserve.

“None of this would have been possible without the support and kindness of the team at Quorum Park. Logistically this could have been very problematic to collate and distribute, but the team at Q11 have been such a fantastic support. On behalf of myself and all involved in this idea, a huge thank you!”

Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care collects and transports patients in a safe and comfortable environment from where they are living to where they will be having their treatment. If required, a volunteer companion will also stay with the patient during their treatment for support.
