How the Quorum community came together for Q Pride 2024!
Our annual Q Pride Festival is a big part of that tradition, providing an opportunity to celebrate the many members of our park teams who identify as LGBTQ+, and this year’s event offered a number of ways in which individuals could explore self-expression at work.
From 11.30am on June 25th, stalls and street food were available to browse ahead of the 1pm parade, and live theatre was provided in the form of Wildflower, a fun, floral, pop-up outdoor piece by Curious Arts, a North East charity championing and developing art by LGBTQ+ creators.
Wildflower is all about blooming wherever you’re planted, and being your most vibrant, colourful self, and we hope that at Quorum Park people feel able to be just that.
Plenty of people got a bit crafty at our ‘Express Yourself’ table, designing their own tote bags, bandanas and friendship bracelets to take home or to give away.
Miss Gloria Love, who describes herself as a diva with a heart of gold, singing in campy, classic drag, but with a modern twist, then banged out a few numbers in her third outing at Q Pride.
She said: “I enjoy getting to meet all the amazing people and seeing the community vibe of Quorum Park. I love the unity between all the different businesses and how everyone always comes together for important causes.”
Attendee Darren McKenzie, who works for park-based AND-E insurance group, added: "Promoting gay pride in the workplace fosters a culture of inclusivity and acceptance. This helps ensure that LGBTQ+ employees feel respected and valued for who they are, which can significantly enhance their sense of belonging."
Thanks to everyone that attended, supported, and came together to create such a fantastic atmosphere on the day.
The fun continues in the name of charity this Friday (July 12th) when Miss Gloria returns to Quorum Park for a fundraising Bingo Bonanza in aid of LGBTQ+ charity Pride Action North and The Charlie and Carter Foundation, a local organisation that provides financial support to parents of seriously ill children with life-limiting conditions which require 24-hour nursing care or specialist facilities.
Starting at 6pm, the ticketed event includes your bingo card, a slice of pizza from Circo Italian Kitchen, and a glass of fizz, all for just £5, and there will be a raffle to win a huge number of prizes, including £100 in cash, an overnight stay with dinner and breakfast at Malmaison in Newcastle, afternoon teas at various city centre establishments, gym passes, food and beverage-based treats, and two tickets to Seat Unique Riverside in Chester le Street to enjoy the Metro Bank One Day Cricket Cup on August 2nd.
