We’re helping one of our own to mark a milestone year
One member of the Quorum Park community that needs no introduction is Greggs, whose head office is on site. But did you know that through its charitable foundation, Greggs has been providing much needed morning sustenance in the form of school breakfast clubs for 25 years this year?
To help celebrate this amazing achievement in our communities, some of the Hub team have decided to go for one of their own – and we know they’ll be glad of some of that sustenance when they’re done!
Three of the team are aiming to raise as much money as they can for the Greggs Foundation by taking part in its annual charity walk in Wooler later this month.
On September 19th, Sustainability and Community Director Laura McGrath will be joined by Colin Abdu from our landscaping team and litter picker Paul Miller as they tackle a 12-mile circular route through the Cheviot Hills.
Starting at Wooler’s newest attraction, the Ad Gefrin distillery, hundreds of fundraisers will be booted up ready to walk for up to six hours in aid of this grant-making organisation that helps feed 62,000 children on a daily basis through its nationwide network of 900 breakfast clubs.
The foundation also offers small grants to community organisations so they can make a difference on their doorstep, while hardship funds are available to support individuals and families who suddenly find themselves in difficult financial circumstances.
Laura said: “Greggs has a proud heritage on Tyneside and its success has also supported the Greggs Foundation to make a huge difference in communities all over the UK for the last quarter of a century.
“It’s such a worthwhile cause to support, with more and more families negatively affected by the cost of living these days, so anyone wishing to join us in this challenge is more than welcome – and of course we’d be very grateful to anyone that feels able to sponsor our efforts. Our plasters and spare socks are already packed!”
The Greggs Foundation’s Partner Relationships Manager, Lynne Hindmarch added: “A big thank you to everyone at Quorum Park for all they do to support us year-round, not least to Laura, Paul and Colin for taking on our annual charity walk, which is always well-attended and raises an incredible but sorely needed amount.
“We know times are tough but every penny is appreciated, and goes towards our funds to build stronger and healthier communities by placing food at their heart.
“The charity walk isn’t the only fundraiser the team has been involved in for us either, as more than £900 was raised by supporters of the Greggs car wash in August, which took place at Quorum Park. A total of 50 vehicles were left spotless thanks in no small part to the Hub team who offered Quorum’s facilities and provided all of the water used.”
If you’d like to join the team in Wooler you can start your own fundraising page for The Greggs Foundation on JustGiving by visiting justgiving.com/greggs and using the ‘Start Fundraising’ button to get set up.
All participants must arrive at the starting point on South Road in Wooler NE71 6NJ by 10am and register with a member of the Greggs Foundation team, who will give them their walk t-shirt where they are expecting one. There is limited parking on site however, so walkers are advised to car share where possible, and please note there is no smoking anywhere inside or outside the premises.
Groups will set off promptly at 10.30am and Greggs refreshments and drinks will be made available at the finish line.
